Zend Framework 3.0 official release!
If you’re a regular in the PHP world, then the term “Zend Framework” should not leave you with a puzzled look on your face. For those of you that are not familiar with the Zend Framework, well, it’s a collection of PHP packages that will help you develop web applications and PHP services. Zend Framework has had over 50 million installations during it’s life, which is quite the achievement. It’s a very powerful framework. Zend utilises composer as a package dependency manager, much like Laravel does and in the same vein, it uses PHPUnit to test packages. An interesting feature of the Zend Framework is the use of Travis CI for it’s Continuous Integration service.
Right, now you’re all caught up with Zend Framework, lets discuss the release of Zend Framework 3! This is the first major release for Zend in 4 years, so it’s a big one! Although, during the development of Zend Framework 3, there have been thousands of commits and thousands of contributors, release small and large features, way too many to list.
The main features of ZF3 is the increased performance! I don’t know about you, but, I am a performance geek. PHP isn’t known for its speed, so I like it when you can make bleeding-edge applications that perform well. Zend Framework 3 boasts an impress speed increase, 4x faster than applications built using PHP 5, if you’re running you installation on PHP7 that is! And, with that (obviously), ZF3 now supports PHP7.
